Wednesday afternoon, the Spokane County Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of the man shot by law enforcement on Tuesday night near the Spokane Valley Mall as 23-year-old Jedadiah Zillmer.

The Medical Examiner listed the cause of death as "multiple gunshot wounds," and the manner of death was listed as a "homicide."

Zillmer called police on Tuesday night saying that he wanted to die from a "suicide by cop" and was driving around. Deputies were able to find Zillmer's car and followed him for miles before the chase ended on Sullivan near the Spokane Valley Mall.

Police say Zillmer, a veteran and Purple Heart Recipient from serving in Afghanistan, had several guns with him in the car and was wearing a bulletproof vest. Police say Zillmer got out of the car, and at some point made some sort of move that caused six deputies to fire their guns. According to the Medical Examiner, Zillmer was hit multiple times, and ultimately died from his injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
