SPOKANE, Wash. – Just 2 minutes, 38 seconds into the game, Spokane native Keanu Yamamoto scored the only goal Spokane would need. The rookie right wing smacked one in off of Connor Chartier's assist to begin what would become a rout, as the Chiefs throttled rival Tri-City Americans 7-0 on Saturday night in the Spokane Arena.

From the first puck drop, the Americans never found a rhythm and Spokane held an overwhelming shot advantage, 48-16, in the game. Tri-City goalie Eric Comrie was under fire as the Americans' defensive unit could not keep up with Spokane's offensive attack. Later in the first, Chartier scored his 10th goal of the season after two precise passes from Reid Gow and Yamamoto put the puck in front of a wide open net.

Mitch Holmberg, playing in his 300th WHL game, scored his 48th and 49th goals of the season. Holmberg now has 134 goals, which leaves him 13 shy of becoming the Chiefs' top all-time goal scorer. The right wing also added two assists on the night for a total of four points.

Hudson Elynuik scored his first goal in a Chiefs uniform, his second of the year, late in the game. Adam Helewka added his 20th goal of the season thanks to assists from Jason Fram and Mike Aviani. Dominic Zwerger scored the game's seventh and final goal.

Goalie Eric Williams had an outstanding performance, stopping all 16 shots fired his direction. The Americans' Rodney Southam had the team's best chance to get on the board in the 2nd Period, but Williams stretched out to stop the breakaway chance with his stick.

The Chiefs power play unit performed well, scoring on two of the five opportunities Tri-City awarded them, including one 5-on-3 advantage. The Americans were penalized twice for having too many men on the ice. Spokane's penalty kill was also on point Saturday night, holding Tri-City scoreless on four opportunities.

The Chiefs will return to the Spokane Arena tomorrow, Sunday, February 16th, to face the Everett Silvertips. Everett is currently on a 16-game losing streak when playing in the Arena. Puck drops at 5:05. Tickets are available in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at (509) 535-PUCK, via TicketsWest outlets and online at www.ticketswest.com.
