State Senate OKs Sentencing Enhancements for Body Armor

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, WA - A person committing a crime while wearing body armor would face higher penalties under a measure that passed the Senate.

Senate Bill 6025 passed on a 41-7 vote and now heads to the House. Under the measure, firearm and deadly weapon sentencing enhancements double if the offender or an accomplice was wearing the protective clothing at the time of the offense.

Also, offenders would not be eligible for time off for good behavior if sentenced under the provision. Republican Sen. Steve O'Ban of University place, the bill's sponsor, says that individuals who put on body armor before a crime are planning for violence.
