CWU Project Provides Prom Beauty to Local Girls

ELLENSBURG, WA. -- Beauty can be expensive, especially when shopping for prom.

"I think next to a wedding dress, a prom dress is the most important dress a girl can wear," Andrea Eklund of the Fairy Godmother Project said.

But for Nancy Sanchez, beauty comes at a much more reasonable price.

"I just want something that looks good and is flattering and has lots of sparkles," Nancy Sanchez said.

She and some friends came all the way from Toppenish to Central Washington University where the 6th annual Fairy Godmother Project gives her a chance to find that special dress.

Getting dressed up and looking nice is much of what goes into prom but it's much more than that. Everyone remembers what they wear to prom, it's about the memories made in that outfit.

"When they really like the dress that you've picked for them you get butterflies," Krissy Knutz said. "It's like, 'oh they said yes to the dress!"

Every dress on these racks are donated for the Fairy Godmother Project. At some department stores dresses can be hundreds but at the Fairy Godmother Project, all of them are less than $50.

After a couple timid showings, Nancy finds the perfect dress.

"I love it! I like the sequins and I think it will be great to have on," she said.

It may not be designer or fresh off the rack, but it's beautiful none-the-less. Now Nancy can leave with a big beautiful smile on her face and that is priceless.
