Judge Rules News Reporters Can Attend Pre-Trial Hearing in Milton-Freewater

Posted: Updated:

MILTON-FREEWATER, OR - The defense attorney for a Milton-Freewater man charged with the 2011 shooting death of Cecil Rob Carter loses a bid to ban news reporters from the pretrial hearings.

The defense said he wanted to keep information from tainting the jury pool during George West Craigen's trial which is scheduled to begin in late May.

The judge said he's worried about the publicity, too but the constitution is clear. He also denied a motion to leave out some gruesome crime scene photos and another motion limiting Carter's family from showing emotion.

The jury won't, however, see Craigen in handcuffs or shackles, as per the attorney's request.
