GRANTS PASS, OR - Oregon has the highest percentage of kids going into kindergarten without vaccinations.
State officials hope to change that with a new law going into effect this spring. Starting March first, Oregon will require parents to talk with a health professional in order to qualify for a waiver. The required vaccines protect against about a dozen different diseases and are supposed to be done before a child enters school.
Since a similar law was put in place in Washington back in 2011, the exemption rate has dropped by nearly three percent.
