Madison Claims WAC Player of Week for Fifth Time

DENVER – Stephen Madison added to his collection of Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday, raking in the award for the fifth time this season.

The Portland, Ore., native averaged 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 block per game while shooting 68.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from 3-point range and 82.6 percent from the free throw line while the Vandals picked up victories over CSU Northridge and Grand Canyon last week.

Madison celebrated his senior day with 34 points on 12-of-15 shooting (80.0 percent) while making 9-of-10 free throws, leading the Vandals to an 83-77 win over Grand Canyon. It was his third 30-plus point outing of the season. Madison's 34 points Saturday leave him with 1,495 in his career and he is now in position to become Idaho's fourth 1,500 point scorer and could finish as high as second in Idaho's career points list. His 12 made field goals against GCU are the fourth most by a WAC player in a game this season, while his 34 points also rank fourth behind his 42 and 35 point performances earlier this season.

Madison scored 21 points with eight rebounds and four assists in a 96-88 non-conference win over Cal State Northridge earlier in the week. He shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from the field and hit 10-of-13 free throws in the game. He also recorded an assist and a block in the win.

Madison also earned the award on Nov. 11, Dec. 2, Dec. 30 and Feb. 10.
