Sunnyside PD & United-Unidos Crack Down on Buisnesses Selling Alcohol to Minors

SUNNYSIDE, WA - Sunnyside United-Unidos is partnering with the Sunnyside Police Department to address the concern of stores selling alcohol to minors.

On February 20th, police conducted 43 compliance checks on local businesses, as part of the group's continuing plan to prevent access to alcohol by Sunnyside youth. They found 5 establishments sold alcohol to a minor.

Every person who sold alcohol to a minor was issued a criminal citation and an administrative fine, issued by the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

A 2012 Healthy Youth Survey Data indicates 1.2 percent of Sunnyside 8th grade students and 6.7 percent of 10th grade students reported purchasing alcohol from a store. that's compared to 0.9 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively, at the state level.
