YAKIMA, WA - A lieutenant in the Yakima County Sheriff's Office said he's ready for the next challenge.

Brian Winter formally announced Tuesday that he's running for sheriff.

Lt. Winter said his experiences as a Marine and a sheriff's officer have prepared him for the leadership role.

Winter also directs many programs in the county like block watch and the reserves program. On top of all that, he works with school districts to improve their security.

"I believe this is a natural progression for me," said Lt. Winter. "I believe that the partnerships that I have worked for years and years to develop will be a huge benefit to the sheriff's office with me as sheriff."

Lt. Winter is the third person to announce their candidacy for sheriff.

Sheriff's Deputy Steve Changala and Tieton Police Chief Jeff Ketchum announced they'll be running as well.
