PASCO, WA - A large group of family, friends and local veterans gathered at the Pasco airport Wednesday to welcome home an Army soldier who's finally home from Afghanistan.

Army Spc. Eric Orr says he was surprised to see not only family greet him, but a large group of veterans and supporters.

Orr says when he saw the flags held by the Operation Thank You group, he realized it was all for him.

Orr greeted each person with a hand shake or a hug to express his appreciation.

But the person who got the most emotional greeting was Orr's great-grandmother. He says she sent him letters while he was away and she's always been there for him.

Orr returned from Afghanistan to his base at Fort Knox in Kentucky three weeks ago before making it back to the Tri-Cities.

"Being home from Afghanistan is different when you come home to where you're based at, but when you come home to where you're from, where your family is, then it's a little different. It was overwhelming. It was exciting," Orr said.

Orr spent nearly nine months in Afghanistan. He will spend three weeks in Washington state visiting with family before he returns to base.

Orr says he is grateful for the support and feels a strong bond with the veterans that came out to welcome him home Wednesday.
