PENDLETON, OR - The Pendleton police chief says they don't know the motive behind a Marine deserter who attacked a woman out for a walk and killed a motel maid.

Lukah Chang pleaded guilty in January and a judge sentenced him to life in prison for the two attacks in Pendleton.

Chang told investigators he knew 19-year-old Amyjane Brandhagen opened rooms she planned to clean and he had snuck into one to wait for her. But investigators say Chang might not even know why he killed her.

Chang was arrested while hiding in the local convention center a year later, after he attacked a woman walking on a riverside path.
