NBCRightNow.com - Eastern Washington University held a memorial Monday for two students who were killed in a car crash last month.

Ashley Gonzalez from Pasco was heading back to school with her friend Nancy Zepeda when they were killed in a crash near Colfax. We are learning both women were heavily involved in school activities at Eastern.

Ashley was a member of the rugby team and someone who is remembered for her contagious laugh and determination. Today a fellow team member said Ashley was the type of person who motivated others to do better than they thought they could. At the memorial service, friends and sorority sisters took turns sharing memories of each of the women.

"They have lot of similar qualities, she was always smiling always working hard," said Nancy Oropeza, a sorority sister and friend.

"I'm overwhelmed by the support that the university, students, staff has showed. It just goes to show how loved Nancy was and Ashley also," said Nancy's boyfriend Walter Villagrana.

Friends of Ashley's said she was the one who taught them to be strong to be brave and to be beautiful. It is clear these two women had a huge impact and will be missed greatly.
