Whitworth has earned its eighth straight trip to the NCAA Division III tournament, and ninth overall, by winning the Northwest Conference playoffs for the eighth straight year.  The Bucs clinched their spot with a hard-fought 71-68 win over Puget Sound in the championship game on Saturday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Trinity defeated Centenary (La.) 82-70 at home in the championship game of the Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference tournament on Sunday afternoon.  The Tigers are making their tenth trip to the NCAA Div. III tournament under head coach Pat Cunningham.

The Pirates (22-5) and Tigers (19-9) will be meeting for the second time this season.  Whitworth won the first meeting 71-53 in the season opener for both schools at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.

Whitworth and Trinity played in the second round of the 2012 Division III tournament with the Pirates claiming a 64-53 win in a game played at Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The other half of the UT-Dallas pod features the host Comets (25-3), winners of the American Southwest Conference regular season and tournament titles, hosting Chapman (18-9).  The Panthers finished third in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference, but upset second-seeded Pomona-Pitzer and top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to win the SCIAC tournament.

First round game times on Friday are still to be officially determined.
