KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick Police say there are still spaces available for people to take part in the KPD Citizen Academy. 

The Kennewick Police Department is offering a free 5 week program, made up of 10 classes for the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30pm to 9:00 pm.  

The Academy teaches about law enforcement and the day-to-day operations of the police department. The classes include patrol procedures and traffic enforcement, detectives and narcotics, internet crimes, evidence collection and crime scene investigations, crime prevention, CAT and SWAT teams, firearms, gangs and graffiti, K-9 and youth services, code enforcement, and the volunteer program. 

Participants will also take a tour of the dispatch center and the Benton County Jail and Justice Center.

March 26th kicks off the Citizens Academy. The deadline to register is March 17th.
