Franklin County Marijuana Moratorium Extension Up in the Air

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA - County commissioners are torn on extending the moratorium on marijuana sales in Franklin County.

Wednesday morning, commissioners listened to testimony from people who are for and against the extension.

Commissioner Brad Peck says he doesn't think the state has done enough research and wants the board to use legislative discretion. Conversely, Commissioner Robert Koch thinks the county should let the moratorium expire and move forward with marijuana sales in the county.

"I just don't see a downside in giving an extra 30-60 days...whatever it takes for the state to complete their work and then we make a fully informed decision," said Peck.

"We can re-establish this moratorium at any time if we find that legislation is going against the counties," said Koch.

Commissioner Rick Miller was not at the meeting. The current moratorium expires March 11th.
