Teams are taking the softball field this week, and they're relying on their leaders. Southridge's Jordan Ziemba leads the suns on the field, but also mentors freshman in the classroom.

"I do ignite, which is mentoring younger freshman, just meet every month or so, talk about how they're doing in high school, it's fun, they're nervous and scared and I remember when I was in 9th grade so it's fun, just got to be someone they look up to," said Ziemba.

The coaching staff see her as a natural leader, and they say that partially comes with her academic success.

"She's somebody that's always going to attract that kind of position on a team. The grades match what she's doing on the field, no question, at that level they're kind of intertwined," said Southridge Head Softball Coach Eric Weisgerber.

She's still a junior, but with an honor-roll G.P.A. and a standout softball career, she'd like to play in college.

"Somewhere close, d1s would be great but anywhere would be fun," said Ziemba.
