NEAR HAYDEN LAKE, ID - Heavy rains throughout the Pacific Northwest are making extra work for cleanup crews and causing problems for drivers.

Around 3 a.m. Thursday Kootenai County Deputies responded to an accident along Rimrock Road. When they arrived they found two vehicles stuck in a large washout. The gap was approximately 10 feet across and eight feet deep.

Investigators say a culvert under Rimrock Rd. failed due to heavy runoff and as the roadway began to deteriorate, the main water line above it broke, washing out the entire width of the road.

Deputies say between the two cars, paramedics transported three people to Kootenai Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.
