SALEM, OR - Oregon lawmakers want to look at improving school safety with a possible online database of floor plans for all schools in the state.
The state Senate approved a measure Thursday creating a task force to study ways to ensure public safety during incidents such as school shootings.
A main part of the task force's work will involve seeking proposals for a database of school blueprints which officials could access via the Internet. The database would also hold pre-set tactical plans, such as maps indicating police command post locations and staging areas.
But some lawmakers were concerned such a database could be targeted by hackers.
The measure also requires the task force to look at training requirements and possible statewide school safety protocols. It goes next to Gov. John Kitzhaber.
