Guard Accused of Smuggling at Walla Walla Prison

Posted: Updated:

WALLA WALLA, WA - A Milton-Freewater man is accused of smuggling a cellphone and marijuana into the Washington State Penitentiary last year when he worked there as a correctional officer.
The 31-year-old, Omar Dejesus Meza, was charged Tuesday in Walla Walla County Superior Court with introducing contraband and delivering marijuana.

Meza has not been arrested but is being summoned to court for an April 7 appearance on the charges.
Police said Meza wanted to make money after a drop-off in overtime pay. He resigned from the prison in July.
