WALLA WALLA, WA - For years Walla Walla's Blue Mountain mall was a place for locals to shop. But when the stores closed after business dropped those doors never reopened. But that's all about to change.

For many Walla Walla residents finally seeing things moving forward at the Blue Mountain Mall will be a sign of progress for their entire city.

The mall used to house shops like Gottschalks, Troutman's Emporium, and Sears. By 2012 when the mall was bankrupt those stores vacated and the empty buildings were left behind.

Now new owners hope to get the place up an running later this year starting by bringing stores into the already existing and eventually building new structures to house even more shops.

Long time resident Ray Quinn told NBC Right Now he can't wait to see what the re-opened mall will do to for Walla Walla.

"I think now with someone with a good business plan and with the situation having been settles legally as I understand it, I think it's and excellent sign that Walla Walla is really going to push forward and develop that way," said Ray Quinn who has lived over 30 years in the city.

The site of the mall is now surrounded by roadways that the city has since expanded which Quinn thinks will make for better traffic in the area and bring more customers to the stores. He hopes overall the city will expand in that direction and make the area a real shopping destination.
