SPOKANE, Wash. – No charges have been filed in the shooting that happened outside Northwest Healing Arts late Sunday night. At this point we do not know if any charges will be filed against either person involved. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office said it is still actively being investigated.

This was not, however, the first time the dispensary has had a problem. The dispensary was burglarized a few months ago and as it turns out, other businesses nearby have been burglarized as well.

The clerk at the gas station nearby says property crime has been an ongoing problem in this area.

“Mostly our area is sort of out of the way and then after five or six at night people feel that they can come out here and take things because there isn't a lot of watching that goes on around here,” said Divine’s Conoco Employee Marz Hull.

Business owners told KHQ that crime has plagued this area long before the dispensary ever moved in. It is an isolated area and businesses say that after dark, criminals take advantage of the fact that not many people are watching. The espresso stand close by that is not even open yet has been broken into, the nearby hardware store has had tools stolen, and the trucks parked in the gas station lot have had fuel taken from them as well.

As for Northwest Healing Arts, it was burglarized a few months ago, so when the owner discovered someone on the property late Sunday night, he confronted him with a gun.

The owner told deputies the man made a threatening move toward him, so he fired. Right now deputies are still interviewing people to find out exactly what happened and looking for surveillance video.

KHQ was also told that the dispensary owner keeps someone at the business at all times and there are cameras on the property. The owner said over the phone that he has no comment at this time.

Previous Story:

SPOKANE, Wash. - A man was shot late Sunday night in the 8300 block of N. Market at a Medical Marijuana Dispensary. Deputies say the dispensary owner saw a shadow outside of his window. He then took his shotgun

outside to confront the person. That person, identified only as a male, was shot after the two got into an argument.

The intruder was shot in the pelvis and then rushed to the hospital and has undergone surgery. There is no update on his condition.

It's not clear at this hour what led up to the actual shooting, and at this point, police have to wait until the intruder is out of surgery to get his side of the story.

The man who runs the medical marijuana dispensary, who fired the shot, has not been arrested and police told me this is because, based on his account of what happened, he was acting out of self defense, protecting himself on his own property.
