Two Kennewick Teens Arrested in Residential Burglary & Forgery Case

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick Police are investigating a residential burglary and forgery case. On Tuesday, officers arrested 18-year-old Derek Anthony Idler and 18-year-old Christian Gerald VanHorn, both of Kennewick.

Police say that between December 2013 and early 2014, a Kennewick woman's home had been burglarized by Idler, but she didn't realize it at that point. It wasn't until March 10th, when Idler tried to cash one of the victim's checks at her own bank. However, Idler was not successful. Later on March 10th, VanHorn cashed a check from the same woman at another bank in Kennewick.

Police say Idler had also taken two other checks from the woman's home and cashed them earlier this month.

On Tuesday, Kennewick Police found VanHorn's vehicle and stopped it, arresting both VanHorn and Idler.

Idler was arrested on an unrelated warrant, theft and resisting arrest from an incident at Shopko in February 2014, and he was placed on an investigative hold for residential burglary and forgery.  VanHorn was released pending review by the Benton County Prosecutor's Office for review of charges of forgery.
