BEVERLY, WA - Grant County PUD is exploring the possibility of using what they call steel strand anchors to fix the crack in Wanapum Dam.

The anchors would be drilled from the top of the dam through the concrete into bedrock, then set into place with high strength grout.

A contractor is set to start nine days of investigative drilling Thursday, to help find the cause of the crack in the dam and its geometry.

Engineers, consultants and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission officials will use the information to determine the best way to fix the problem and possibly raise the water level in the Wanapum Reservoir to an intermediate level while it's being fixed.

Grant PUD workers found a 65 foot long crack in the dam back on February 27th.
