WWII Vet Asking For Thieves To Return His American Flag

KHQ received a call from a veteran named Larry Sheets who said he had been a victim of theft. But the thieves didn't steal just anything, they stole a reminder of his service to this country: his American flag. MEAD, Wash. - KHQ received a call from a veteran named Larry Sheets who said he had been a victim of theft. But the thieves didn't steal just anything, they stole a reminder of his service to this country: his American flag. 

Just shy of their 65th wedding anniversary, Larry lost his wife Lorraine to Alzheimers. Now alone at his home in Mead, Larry will tell you stories of his time serving in World War II, including his one year, six months and twenty-three days in the war zone. 
Larry has given a lot for this country, so when thieves took his American flag, Larry was at a loss for words. 

"A friend of mine came by and says, 'you know I noticed that flag was missing,' I said 'yea me too.' So I started looking and it was gone."

Larry still doesn't understand why anyone would want to take his flag from his yard, but thinks it may have been a prank by some kids.

"I know we have a lot of good kids today. But there are some of them if they served a hitch in the Army they would learn discipline and respect."

All Larry Sheets has asked for in life is respect he says and now he is asking for one more thing: his flag.
"I would really appreciate it if they would. It would mean a lot to me and I think it would mean a lot to them too if they realized they made a mistake and maybe want to do something about it," Larry told KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus.

Sheets did file a report with the Sheriff's Department and they are looking in to it, but he says he just wants his flag back and someone to admit they made a mistake.
