WALLA WALLA, WA - Up, up and away! Even though the Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is returning this spring 'scaled back,' people can still look forward to lots of family fun.

The Chamber of Commerce announced earlier this year that they were handing over the reigns after decades of running the event. With that announcement, came the news that it would only feature the balloons, which happen in the morning.

The vendors and live entertainment were cut but now, a longtime volunteer with the Stampede is  bringing it all back with a Walla Walla Spring Fling.

"Usually there is some type of event going on. Whether it's that people would attend to see vendors or eat or see their kids in some type of entertainment and there wasn't going to be that so I knew that this was something I could pull together," said Liz Fairbanks Pierce.

A handful of vendors have already signed up, from as far away as Arizona! Home Loan Center of Washington in Walla Walla is co-sponsoring the event.

Walla Walla Spring Fling is scheduled for May 9th and 10th at Pioneer Park and it will double as a fundraiser for Children's Wishes and Dreams of Walla Walla.

To get involved you can contact Liz at (509) 386-2193 or (509) 527-3353.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the great parts about living in Spokane, is if you head out of town in any direction, you're going to run into some beautiful farm land. I grew up south of Spokane, near Plaza, and one of my favorite things to do was to sit on the porch at night and stare south towards Rosalia at all of the rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley and peas. More >>
