Allied Arts Holds One of Their Last Events Before Shutdown

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA. -- After 50 years in Yakima, Allied Arts is closing their doors for good. Sunday the organization held one of their last events.

There was a cheerful feeling despite the circumstances. About 3 dozen people came downtown Sunday to paint North Front Street and they got an entire logo done in under an hour.

The event Sunday was guerrilla style street painting and the organization has had it planned for weeks. Allied Arts announced earlier this week that they will be shutting down due to financial troubles. Sunday wasn't about talking about the past or lamenting the terrible situation that the organization is now in. It was just about bringing art to the community one last time.

"Allied arts shut down a little faster than a lot of us thought or planned so this event was planned for next Sunday but we moved it up a week," Nick Orlando said. "And this is just paying homage to Allied Arts and to those who embrace and appreciate art in the community."

This Thursday Allied Arts will have possibly their last ever official event showcasing the movie "Bless Me Ultima" from their Latino Cultural Film Series. If you would like to attend to pay your respects to the organization or just to see a good film contact the Season's Performance Hall.
