Richland and Hanford High School Teams Prepare for State Knowledge Bowl

RICHLAND, WA - The Knowledge Bowl teams from Richland and Hanford High Schools are preparing for a state competition this weekend. 

In February, both teams qualified for the Washington State Knowledge Bowl, coming up on March 22nd in Arlington. 

The Richland High team earned first place at the 4A Regional competition on February 21st in Kennewick. Team members are: Annie Lai, Argho Datta, Laura Yoshida, Nick Avilla, Aydin Akyol, and Guilia Szanyi. The coach is Sandee Stroup.  

The Hanford High team earned first place at the 3A Regional competition on February 25th in Kennewick. Team members are: Jonah Bartrand (captain), Shanta Katipamula, Konrad Krogstad, Chenchen Li, Sathvik Ramanan, and Venkatesh Varada. The coaches are Jim Wilson and Cathy Stordeur.  

The Knowledge Bowl oral competition is similar to Jeopardy with teams "buzzing in" when they know an answer.  

The topics covered in the competition include math, science, history, language skills, literature, geography and current events.
