KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick Police say a medical problem caused a man to crash into a light pole Tuesday morning.

Police say the man drove across 4th Avenue near Olson Street and hit the pole on the opposite side of the road.

Officers say a young girl was also in the car, but neither of them got hurt.

The crash happened in Lance Orr's front yard. He says if the pole hadn't been there, it could have been a lot worse. Orr says several members of his family were sleeping in the house at the time, including his nephew who was in the home's front room.

"If he hadn't hit the pole, he would have run right through our living room," Orr said. "So he would have hit the porch, and would have slammed right there. He would have done a lot more damage, so it's a good thing the city put a pole here."

After the crash, paramedics took the man to the hospital to be checked out.

The City of Kennewick hasn't said when the light pole will be replaced.
