ELLENSBURG, WA - Ellensburg Police have nabbed a man wanted for a rash of vehicle prowls around the city.
On Monday, officers arrested 22-year-old Jose Sevilla-Lopez on two arrest warrants in connection with a traffic stop. When police were arresting Sevilla-Lopez, they found several power tools and electronics in the back seat of the vehicle that looked to be hastily placed.
Before Sevilla-Lopez's arrest, nine vehicle prowls had been reported. A victim from one of the reported vehicle prowls positively identified his power tools seen in the stopped vehicle. A search warrant was served on the vehicle resulting in several more stolen items being recovered. In all six of the nine reported vehicle prowls have been cleared with Sevilla-Lopez's arrest.
Sevilla-Lopez was booked into the Kittitas County Corrections Center on recommended charges of possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and possession of controlled substances (suspected to be methamphetamine and heroin). A firearm was also recovered from the vehicle which may lead to a sentencing enhancement relating to the drug possession.
