Man Injured In Seattle Helicopter Crash Improving

SEATTLE (AP) - The 38-year-old Seattle man who was injured on the ground when the KOMO-TV news helicopter crashed is improving
    
Harborview Medical Center reports Richard Newman has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.
    
Spokeswoman Susan Gregg says he has second- and third-degree burns on up to 20 percent of his body - on his back and arms. He also has cuts on his head and a broken rib. He's sedated in the intensive care unit and will need surgeries for the burns, but not immediately.
    
The fire department had initially estimated that burns covered 50 percent of his body. His car was hit by the burning helicopter Tuesday morning near the Seattle Center.
    
Gregg says Harborview is well-equipped to treat the man as the Level 1 trauma center for four states.

(AP) - A Spokane County judge has ruled that statements to law officers made by the student arrested for shooting four people at Freeman High School last year are admissible in upcoming court proceedings.    Superior Court Judge Michael Price made the decision Monday in the case of 16-year-old Caleb Sharpe, who was arrested for the death of one classmate and the wounding of three others.

    HAVRE, Mont. - Two U.S. citizens were questioned by a Border Patrol officer in Montana for speaking Spanish while stopped at a gas station.  Ana Suda told the Washington Post she and friend Mimi Hernandez, both Mexican-Americans, ran out to a gas station convenience store for milk and eggs just after midnight in Havre, Montana and started conversing in Spanish while waiting to pay.
