UPDATE/HERMISTON, OR - The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the Hermiston couple involved in Wednesday's fatal crash.

Deputies say passenger Shirley Butcher, 78, was killed when the accident that happened at the intersection of South Edwards Rd. and East Feedville Rd. Her husband, 76-year-old Gerald Butcher, was taken to a hospital in Portland. His injuries are currently unknown.

"We are investigating the cause of the crash, which could take some time, while both physical and forensic evidence is still being collected and analyzed," said Sheriff Terry Rowan. "Some of the forensic information we look at is stored in the on board computer system installed in newer model vehicles, so it could take some time before we get those results back."

The incident is still under investigation.

HERMISTON, Ore. - The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash near Hermiston Wednesday morning. 

Umatilla County Firefighters say a car and a truck crashed in the intersection of South Edwards Road and East Feedville Road around 7:30am. 

Firefighters say an elderly woman from Hermiston, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene. Firefighters extricated the driver of the car, paramedics took him to Good Shepard Hospital with serious injuries. Paramedics later airlifted him to a hospital in Portland.

Firefighters say the driver of the truck wasn't hurt. We're working to learn more information to keep you updated.
