Police Officer In Idaho Who Shot Dog To Remain On Payroll

Posted: Updated:
FILER, Idaho (AP) - A south-central Idaho police officer who shot a resident's dog will remain on the payroll but receive additional training.

Filer Mayor Rick Dunn says the city council took the results of a Nampa Police Department investigation that found the shooting justified as well as public opinion into consideration in making the decision Tuesday concerning officer Tarek Hassani.

The Times-News reports (http://bit.ly/1mhDiAc) that some residents attending the city council meeting were outraged.

Hassani on Feb. 8 responded to a report of dogs running loose, and he went to the home of Rick Clubb to deliver a citation.

His dashboard-mounted camera shows two dogs that begin circling and barking at him, sometimes lunging toward him. In the video, he kicks at a 7-year-old black Labrador named Hooch before shooting it.
