Supreme Court To Hear Arguments In Hobby Lobby Birth Control Case

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Are corporations people? That's the question the Supreme Court will have to answer as they are set to hear oral arguments in the case of Hobby Lobby vs. the Affordable Care Act.

Hobby Lobby has sued for an exemption from the contraception mandate, saying that the provision of the Affordable Health Care Act violates religious liberty.

On the question of corporate personhood, four years ago, on a 5-4 vote, the court endorsed broad free-speech rights for corporations in the campaign finance context in a case called Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.

The question they will face next week, is can the government force a corporation to cover contraception for it's employees, if those who own the corporation don't believe in birth control?
