YAKIMA, WA - The Catholic Diocese of Yakima has concluded its defense in a $3 million sex abuse lawsuit filed by a man from Zillah.

Closing arguments will be held in April before a federal judge in Yakima who is hearing the case without a jury.

The man says a candidate for the priesthood gave him alcohol and raped him back in 1999. The lawsuit claims the church failed to check the background and supervise Aaron Ramirez when he worked at a transitional deacon for the Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah.

The lawyer for the diocese says the Zillah man's memory is inconsistent.
