HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A woman mauled in a 2009 chimpanzee attack has appeared at a hearing to ask Connecticut lawmakers for permission to sue the state for $150 million.

Charla Nash argues the state knew the animal was dangerous and should have seized it before it mauled her, leaving her blind and disfigured. She is expected to make a statement at Friday's hearing.

Last year, a state claims commissioner refused Nash's request for permission to sue the state, but lawmakers are considering a bill that would override that decision. The state generally is immune from lawsuits unless allowed by the commissioner.

Nash lost both hands and underwent a face transplant following the attack in Stamford.

Attorney General George Jepsen says he has sympathy for Nash but the law does not support her claim.

OMAK, Wash. - I can picture the Austin Powers bit now.  The people of Omak looking up at the sky and seeing a giant (Fill in the blank innuendo here) just like in 1999's Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. If you're unfamiliar, I'll save you a Google search.  A simple, yet effectively funny joke.  Except the U.S. Navy doesn't see humor in the real-life version at all.
