PENDLETON, OR - Morrow County is using money from wind development to build a new government administration building in Heppner.

The county says it will be built on property developed just north of the historic courthouse. Judge Terry Tallman said the county's current facilities are outdated, and in some cases potentially unsafe.

Rather than spend money bringing multiple buildings up to standard, the county decided it would be more efficient to consolidate departments and create one new administrative center.

Tallman says the center will also expand storage for county records and provide better meeting space between officials and the public.

Rough estimates peg the project at $2.5 million. Tallman says it will be funded entirely by revenue from wind energy development.
