PENDLETON, OR - A Pendleton man awaiting trial for murder now faces additional charges after violent incidents in the Umatilla County Jail.

Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan says 34-year-old Joseph Quintana Jr. has not been a model inmate.

A grand jury indictment alleges Quintana used a cup and the floor as weapons when he attacked a 52-year-old inmate last year.

Court records show Quintana later got into a second fight. Rowan says an inmate changed the channel on a TV, which set off Quintana, and when a guard stepped in to break up the fight, and Quintana hit him, too.

Quintana has pleaded not guilty to the assaults.

His murder trial is set to start on September 5th. He's accused of fatally stabbing Allen Spencer in Pendleton.
