PASCO, WA - Tri-Cities Animal Control took in two dogs this past week that were just tossed away in dumpsters.

Animal control is caring for the dogs and taking legal action.

One of the two dogs was found in a dumpster on Sylvester Street in Pasco. Two animal lovers found the neglected dog and took him in.

"Look down in there an I saw something move. I didn't know what it was. I looked a little closer and it happened to be a dog," said Jeff Arbogast, who discovered the dog first.

The dumpster is located next to the American Legion. Tracie Welliver works at the American Legion and came out to help Arbogast.

"I jumped in the dumpster and tried to get him to come out," Welliver said.

The scared dog stayed with Welliver Monday night.

Animal control investigated the scene Tuesday and took the dog into their care.

Animal control director, Angela Zilar said, since she started working there in 2007 she's only seen four cases of dogs abandoned in a dumpster. She is disturbed two of those cases happened within the last week.

"Extremely concerning, why are people resorting to throwing animals into dumpsters that are alive, that can be re-homed? They do have resources out there. They just need to ask for help," Zilar said.

Animal control workers named the dog Legend. They will keep the dog for three days to review lost dog reports and see if an owner comes forward.

Legend captured the hearts of his rescuers and will find his way to a healthy home.

"For somebody to raise it that far and then dump it in the dumpster is wrong," said Arbogast.

Welliver was sad to part with the dog.

"I was very sad, when they took him. He's a very sweet dog, very sweet. I can't imagine why somebody would throw something like that away," said Welliver.
