Benton & Franklin Co. Health Fall in Middle of Healthy Counties in WA State
New county health rankings show Benton and Franklin counties are becoming healthier communities, but they still have room to improve.
BENTON & FRANKLIN COUNTIES, WA - New county health rankings show Benton and Franklin counties are becoming healthier communities, but they still have room to improve.
Out of the 39 counties in Washington state, Benton ranked 13th while Franklin came in at number 18. The rankings are based on 29 factors including diet and exercise, quality of healthcare and community safety.
The Benton-Franklin Health District says the data confirms the areas they need to focus on.
"Our obesity rates tend to be higher...people are not as physically active as they could be and we likely have a higher percentage of fast food restaurants [than we'd like]," said Doctor Amy Pearson, the health officer for Benton-Franklin Health District.
Yakima County didn't fair as well, coming in at number 35.
The number one county on the list was San Juan County, which is about 100 miles northwest of Seattle.
