PENDLETON, OR - Umatilla County Commissioners are proposing a budget that includes enough money for two new sheriff's deputies.
Despite two public safety levies failing in November 2013, county commissioners say they are still making the commitment to public safety.
The commissioners also want to add a correctional officer to allow the jail to expand capacity.
A third goal is to find a place for deputies to work in Milton-Freewater. The sheriff's office headquarters is in Pendleton and deputies also work out of Hermiston. Commissioners say it's now time for deputies to work out of Milton-Freewater, and they believe they have enough money to do so.
