YAKIMA, WA - Yakima firefighters were called out to the Yakima Airport for a minor plane crash Thursday evening.

Firefighters say a 2008 "Just Highlander" aircraft was landing on runway 27 when a cross wind lifted the plane and then flipped the plane onto the infield.

Two of Yakima's specialized aircraft firefighting and rescue vehicles quickly responded to the crash site and found both the pilot and the student exiting the plane with minor injuries.

There was no fire and no fuel leaked from the plane.

The ambulance and Yakima Police were not needed at the scene and were canceled by the incident commander.

However, the owner estimates the plane was totally destroyed in the crash, which is about $75,000 worth of damage.
