BENTON COUNTY, WA – NBC Right Now told you last week when a group formed Citizens for Safe Communities.

The group is hoping to pass a public safety tax that would improve the criminal justice system. Benton County Prosecutor Andy Miller is among the group. When we spoke with him he explained that one main focus of the improvements would be battling gang activity. He thinks establishing a county gang prosecutor could be helpful.

"It's going to allow us to send gang members who commit horrible crimes to prison for a long, long, long time. It's also going to give us the resources to convince children not to go into a gang in the first place," said Miller.

The tax will show up on the August 5th primary ballot.
