YAKIMA, WA - Safe Yakima is kicking of their Graffiti Be Gone campaign Monday, hoping to help rid Yakima of distasteful street paintings.

Graffiti in Yakima is more than a just an issue, it's like a war. And this is the man on the front lines.

"I feel happy to do everyday what I like to do," Ramon Orozco said. "To see the see the city clean."

Ramon Orozco's life is paint. He goes out everyday with his team of volunteers and covers graffiti painted around Yakima. Most days the city supplies him more than 5 gallons of paint.

"Most of the homeowners are very happy about it because they see their properties looking like this and they know I'm going to clean it up," Orozco said.

Not all graffiti is the same. At it's very basic it is art and that's why there's some graffiti Ramon and his team leave up.

Walls like this Ramon cherishes but not houses like this one. Ramon is the only man in charge of battling this type of graffiti around Yakima but he isn't the first. The graffiti program has been around for more than 10 years but the problem never seems to go away.

"It's like battling a dinosaur with a fly swatter," Orville Otto said. "We got one guy covering graffiti for 90-thousand people and sometimes if feels impossible."

That's what Safe Yakima is hoping to change by kicking off their two week long Graffiti Be Gone campaign Monday.

"This is everyone's chance to make a difference," Dave Hansen of Safe Yakima said.

And remember that house from the earlier? Well Ramon took care of it with a smile on his face.
