SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Deputy Craig Chamberlin confirmed with KHQ Monday night that K9 Laslo was attacked by another dog while Laslo and his handler Deputy Thurman were responding to a burglary in progress call in Greenacres.

Chamberlin said the attacking dog was tied to a fence and when Deputy Thurman arrived at the call, the burglary suspect started running from Thurman. Deputy Thurman gave chase and came around a corner and the attacking dog broke loose from the fence and charged him and Laslo. The attacking dog latched onto Laslo's leg and was not letting go. Deputy Thurman fired twice, killing the dog.

Chamberlin identified the attacking dog as a pitbull.

Laslo was taken to the vet with multiple wounds and had 6 staples put in. Laslo is now at home and is expected to make a full recovery.
