City Turns Down Port of Umatilla Warehouse Request

Posted: Updated:

UMATILLA, OR - The Port of Umatilla wants to build a freight warehouse on controversial land in the area.

The city has the land listed as single-family residential while the county has it set aside for heavy industrial use. The land is next to the Big River Golf Course in the McNary neighborhood of Umatilla.

The city's planning commission voted Tuesday to uphold the residential zoning established 40 years ago. Port officials say they plan to appear the decision to the City Council.

The $1.5 million warehouse would be 15,000 square feet. A state grant would pay for it.
