YAKIMA, WA - 20 years ago, Yakima received its first All-America City Award.

Now, Yakima is one of 25 finalists for the 2014 award. A team of community leaders led by the Chamber of Commerce sent in an 8,000 word application focusing on the education, history and health of the Yakima Valley.

"I think it brings back some pride," All-America Chairman Joe Mann said. "We really get down on ourselves when every day we see all the negative things that happen and they happen to all communities. But a lot of times people don't take the time to focus on all the positive things that are going on."

The All-America Committee will travel down to Denver in June to give an oral presentation in front of a panel of judges. 10 cities will be designated All-America cities out of the 25 finalists.
