Spokane native Tyler Johnson has become only the ninth Spokane Chief in club history to score more than 50 points in a single season in the National Hockey League and only the third to do so in his rookie season.

Johnson scored 24 goals and totaled 26 assists in 80 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, good enough for the most goals in a rookie season* in franchise history. The only other former Chiefs to score 50 points or more in their first full NHL season were Pat Falloon and Michael Grabner. Falloon scored 25 goals and finished with 34 assists (59 poinsts) in his first season with the San Jose Sharks in the 1991-92, while Grabner tallied 34 goals and 18 assists (52 points) for the New York Islanders in 76 games in 2010-11.

Johnson finished third in rookie scoring this season behind Colorado's Nathan McKinnon (68) and fellow Lightning teammate Ondrej Palat (58). Johnson and McKinnon tied for the rookie lead in goals for the 2013-14 season with 24 each. All three have two more games to play this week to add to these season totals.
