Auctioned Bull Raises Money for Fellow Breeder

Sheridan -

Thousands of dollars were raised in a matter of seconds for a wounded rancher at the 5-L Red Angus Bull Auction in Sheridan Friday.

A total of 300 bulls were sold in a matter of four hours, but one bull in particular was special.

His name is Reggie.

"He started a life on Facebook through the Montana Stock Growers," said Larisa Mehlhoff, with the 5-L Red Angus Ranch. "The Montana Stock Growers wanted a calf to show people in the normal public what happens on a ranch from birth to where the calf goes."

Since last year, Reggie's life has been documented in the Montana ranching community where as a bull he started to gain some fame.

"Reggie is Reggie," she said. "And that's what he is known as."

Reggie the bull was auctioned off by the Mehlhoff family who own the 5-L Red Angus Ranch.

Knowing the bull was going to bring in money, the Mehlhoff's decided to take the proceeds and donate it to the family of Kenny Forester, a fellow red Angus breeder who was recently injured in a four-wheeling accident.

"There was no head injuries. He broke almost all of his ribs, punctured his lungs," Mehlhoff said. "He is in an induced coma. They're saying that may last up to four months."

Reggie was sold for $6,500.

It's a little more than the Mehlhoff's were expecting.

"It just shows what kind of people, and how good of people the Mehlhoff's are when they'll step up and do that," said Joe Fritz, a fellow Red Angus breeder. "We all need to help support, especially when something like this happens."

"Kenny is a dear friend, and he would do anything for anyone in the world. So we feel privileged to this for him."

The Mehlhoff's will deliver the funds to the Forester family and they will continue to document Reggie's life.
