SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga University Baseball team fell into 5-1 hole vs. Santa Clara after the top of the 5th inning, only to comeback and tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 9th, before the Broncos won 6-5 in a 10-inning West Coast Conference affair at the Patterson Baseball Complex on Friday, April 11.

Taylor Jones started the game hot from the mound for the Bulldogs (10-22, 6-7 WCC) striking out four of the first six SCU batters, and five of the first eight men he faced. Then things unraveled for Jones and Gonzaga in the top of the fourth inning. Jose Vizcaino Jr. reached on an error, then a high fastball got away from the right-handed starter and hit Santa Clara's Mac Hess in the face. Hess got up and dusted himself off to realize he had a bloody nose and had to be lifted from the game for T.J. Braff.

The Broncos (14-19, 5-5) eventually tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth with Vizcaino Jr. and Braff coming in on Kert Woods' double to right center field after the duo had moved to second and third on Kyle Czaplak's sacrifice bunt.

Gonzaga would score one in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to Mitch Gunsolus' line-drive single into right field to bring in Caleb Wood.

SCU's run streak wasn't over. The Broncos added three more to theit lead in the top of the fifth. Quinton Perry hit a deep double off of the left-center field wall with one out and Vizcaino Jr. picked him when he blasted a triple.  Braff scored Vizcaino Jr. with a single to left, then Braff made it 5-1 when Woods singled him in two plays later.

The Bulldogs got two runs back later in the frame when Payden Lamb and Jimmy Sinatro led off with back-to-back singles. Cory LeBrun's single to left scored Lamb, while Cabe Reiten's single scored Sinatro to make it 5-3 SCU.

Gonzaga cut the Broncos lead to one, 5-4, in the seventh inning when Reiten hit a deep sac fly to center to score Sinatro. Sinatro had walked to lead off the inning and was moved over on a Sam Brown infield single and a LeBrun sac bunt.

The Zags tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. LeBrun ripped a single to left, Brock Slavin came in to pinch run for him, and Reiten lifted a high fly ball to right field thinking the game was over. But it dropped and Slavin came in to score the tying run with a head first slide just ahead of the tag.

Santa Clara scored in the top of the 10th when Czaplak scored on a wild pitch from David Bigelow with two outs. Bigelow pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with 5 KS before giving up the late run. Karl Meyers struck out the final SCU batter.

The Zags breathed some life into the stands when Lamb singled and Sinatro was intentionally walked in the bottom of the 10th. Brown hit a single into left field and Lamb tried to score from second but was thrown out by SCU's Casey Munoz at the plate to end the game.

Lamb finished 4-for-6 and scored a run, while Reiten finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 1 run scored to lead Gonzaga. The Bulldogs tallied 18 hits on the night.

Braff went 2-for-3 and added 2 runs and had an RBI after coming in for Hess. Kert Woods led the Broncos with three RBI and went 2-for-4 from the dish.
