YAKIMA, WA - The City of Yakima is taking another step toward building a new downtown plaza.

On Thursday members of the plaza design team will visit Yakima to take the next step in the design process.

The team will meet with a city council committee to talk about the design process and tour potential plaza locations.

In March the City Council approved a contract with Gustafson Guthrie Nichol and Graham Baba Architects, both from Seattle, to lead the plaza design process and to come up with potential plans for two sites.

The sites are the parking lot next to Millennium Plaza on 3rd street or a parking lot near 2nd Street and Sergeant Pendleton Way.

If you want to get involved with the design and give your input on what should be included in it... there will be a public meeting at 6:30 Thursday night at the Seasons Performance Hall where both architect firms will take your ideas.

This is open to anyone.

Plaza design concepts for the two sites should be done later this year, but in the end the City Council will have to choose one of the two sites to build on.
